Yoga & Nutrition
In addition to the SoundMind Program, we also offer one-on-one holistic health coaching with Zarah Kravitz to those interested in cleaning up their diet and lifestyle to be more suitable to meditation and a spiritual path. Just send us a quick email to set up a time for the initial consultation to find out if she's right for your needs and goals. Zarah offers a holistic approach to nutrition, which means that she examines how all areas of your life are connected, not only to food, but other psychic and energetic inputs which may inform how you nourish youself on many different levels.
Does stress at your job or in your relationship cause you to overeat? Does lack of sleep or low energy prevent you from exercising? As we work together, we look at how all parts of your life affect the whole.
Zarah Kravitz is a Certified Nutrition Counselor accredited through the American Association for Drugless Practitioners and a graduate of The Institute for Integrative Nutrition.
The Institute for Integrative Nutrition has a holistic approach to health and wellness and is the only nutrition school integrating all the different dietary theories-combining the knowledge of traditional philosophies with modern concepts like the USDA food pyramid, the glycemic index, the Zone and raw foods.
Zarah is also a certified yoga instructor trained by Sri Dharma Mittra in Hatha Raja Yoga. She had been practicing yoga for a few years previous to her training, but her true practice wasn't born until she stepped into the small humble studio on 23rd and 3rd Ave, where she literally felt like she had found "home". It was a blessed gift to be trained by Sri Dharma Mittra. She is so grateful to be able to continually takes classes from our beloved Guruji. Zarah's personal health story includes a near-death kidney infection in 2005, which left her disenchanted by our health care system and instilled in her clarity and insight as to what her larger purpose is: to catalyze a shift in consciousness on the planet by helping people take responsibility for shifting their own personal health paradigms. In other words, teaching people to prevent their own illness and disease instead of relying on a doctor to treat the symptoms for them while never finding the true underlying cause -FOOD.
Zarah has embraced an integrative and holistic counseling approach to lifestyle and nutritional change. She empowers her clients to embrace their wellness potential by using natural and sustainable remedies. She specializes in working with those who are transitioning into including more plant-based foods into their lifestyle. She also encourages her clients to open their hearts to spiritual health and represents the importance of living harmoniously on the planet.
Zarah's background is in theater which was her vehicle for change until Integrative Nutrition. She has had years of experience in extensive traveling across the country in a theater troupe, clowning in Russia for orphans, and performing on stage in New York City. When Zarah is not counseling or teaching yoga she can be found in her kitchen making raw chocolate or biking in Prospect Park in Brooklyn New York.
Zarah is available not only for Nutrition and Lifestyle Counseling, but Yoga Privates, Health Food Store Tours, Cooking Classes, Seminar Presentations on Nutrition and Yoga, long distance correspondence health counseling and Healthy Group Programs and Parties.
"Working with Zarah was one of the most educational, and mind-opening experiences that I have had. When Zarah asked me to keep a food journal on the first day, I thought to myself, "I've done this before. I know how to be healthy!" Little did I know that sticking to low fat, low calorie foods was not the way to go. Rather than count calorie intake, Zarah taught me to focus on the ingredients and to eat only non-processed, whole, organic, local and seasonal foods. She promised me that if that was my focus, that the weight would drop off and that I would feel better - and she was right.
I originally went to Zarah to slim down before my wedding, but what I left with was a wealth of knowledge and a new way to live my life. She seamlessly incorporates nutritional information, with other ways to live your life in a healthier manner. She is open, honest, non-judgmental, and overall a great mentor. I would highly recommend her services!"

"I've had a great experience! Even months after stopping the program I find myself actively pursuing a healthy lifestyle. I try to buy local whenever possible, and I really try to listen to what my body wants. Being gluten free can be hard sometimes but working with Zarah opened my eyes to the variety of foods that are out there. My menu is not the same week to week like it was this time last year. I am more mindful about what I am consuming every meal -- I think about what I'm going to eat before I eat it."

"Zarah is a fantastic coach and takes a holistic approach to nutrition and wellness. She works with her clients to create a personalized plan and takes into account all aspects of your life. She is professional, warm, and hilarious. I was very pleased with my results and appreciated all the extra time and energy she put into working with me. I look forward to working with her again when I am back in NYC."

"I came across Zarah Kravitz when researching the raw food movement. I had been finding myself void of energy, lacking a passion for life, etc., so I sought Zarah's services for nutritional and spiritual counseling. Being a cynic by nature, I wasn't sure what to expect; a well-intentioned, well-informed healer, or a flake with credentials from an online out of state corespondence school? Happily she turned out to be the former. I will say first and foremost that never once pushed an agenda on me. She really attempts to be in tune with you as an individual.
Here's my story:
I'm the type of person who has a hard time loving themselves. My struggle with mild weight loss and depression led me to view my mind and body in unbelievably negative ways. I even chastised myself if I couldn't stick to a particular food movement. Zarah, in three months, has changed all that. By meeting with me bimonthly, she listened to my complaints, fears and joys. Using researched data, as well as her own judgement, she was able to help pinpoint what was making me unhappy. I realized then it was okay to ignore the rules I had set in place for myself--they weren't working, anyway! A good example would be my having to change my diet from a vegetarian/vegan one to an omnivorous one. Even though Zarah herself is vegan, she was great support when it came to having to make that difficult switch. In the past, I would have been very hard on myself for not being able to be a vegetarian, but Zarah allowed me the self-love and freedom to listen to what my body needed, as opposed to listening to a food movement.
Food was just one example, and without going into detail, Zarah was also able to work on my relationship to other people, as well as myself. I would recommend her services if you are feeling that you are in a rut and need some change in your life, especially if you don't know where to start. All it takes is a consultation to see if you are a right fit."
